A waiter's daydream
L'Oiseau Paradis is built around a waiter who dreams of leaving the tables to take the stage himself — a storyline that gives the revue's fifteen tableaux a single thread from opening to finale.
Kamel Ouali's production
The show has run since May 2019, directed and choreographed by Kamel Ouali, one of France's best-known choreographers, working across theatre, television and stadium shows before staging this revue.
A modern French Cancan
Choreographer Marie-Laure Philippon worked with Ouali to build a new take on the French Cancan for the production — a dance form itself associated with Paris cabaret since the nineteenth century.
Thirty performers, fifteen tableaux
Press describes the cast as around thirty international dancers, singers, acrobats and comedians, moving through roughly fifteen tableaux across the show's ninety-plus minutes, rather than one continuous scene.
Sets, costumes and effects
Sets are designed by Alain Lagarde; costumes are made by the Paris couture house On Aura Tout Vu. The production combines this stagecraft with special effects across the tableaux.
Ninety minutes, one curtain a night
The revue runs from 9:30pm to around 11:15pm, a single nightly performance rather than several sittings — everyone in the room, whichever menu they've booked, sees the same show at the same time.
